Volunteers BCSD Adult utilizes highly-trained volunteers to tutor students in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESL) and to help students one-on-one with various learning needs. Advanced volunteer training is a six-week program offered twice per year. A total course fee of $75 covers a volunteer uniform shirt, background check, and training materials. Naturalists must successfully complete an interview with an education coordinator in their preferred section and commit to a regular, weekly shift.

One of the most rewarding experiences as a volunteer tutor is spending time helping an adult learner improve his or her literacy. With reading abilities comes a boost in confidence and a whole new world of opportunity on the job front. When you help an adult you also enhance your skills as a tutor.
